25 Random Things About Me
Posted Friday, April 10, 2009 05:40 AM

 Kathy Killebrew Poehl

Here's an idea to get everyone caught up on what has gone on since our days at Mac...

Play the 25 Random things about yourself....

Here are a few rules - not that we need any, so maybe guidelines would be a better descriptor..

Come play "25 Random Things About Me" on Message Forum - 3rd item in the column on the left!

Just post the 25 Random Things About Yourself -
can be anything you wish to share.....quirks, good stuff, juicy stuff, bad stuff, or things that make you the interesting person you are today.

If you want to tag someone to find out more about them - send a message via the message forum, AND send one to them directly from their profile. Let's try to get everyone who has registered on the website to post their 25 Random Things About Me...

Appreciation, ridicule, or thank you comments about everyone's 25 Random Things should add to the enjoyment of reading about our classmates....

Don't wait to be tagged - share something about yourself today....and of course Ken Pearce needs to get his posted tonight - Wednesday - February 25th....

Go Brahmas !!

Kathy Killebrew Poehl

O.K. - here are my 25 Random Things about me -

1.My best friend is my younger sister Suzy, even though we had battles in high school about violating each other’s space …

2.Met my husband Michael at Southwest Texas State during my freshman year, and we are still married after 37 years……and my parents adored him – he is a good soulmate, and we have had a lot of good times over the years.

3.My hair is still strawberry blond – I think ? At least it has some red highlights !

4.I really miss my Mother. We lost her to cancer in 1979 at the young age of 54….

5.I really miss my Dad as well-- who I thought was a wonderful, kind, role model – At the last reunion I learned that a few Mac guys were afraid of him – something about papering my house, and my Dad calling some parents after finding a wallet left at the scene – and --of course, I NEVER knew anything about it until 5 years ago….

6.I have always collected. Reborn dolls are my latest passion. I made a porcelain doll ONCE, but the “ cost “ would have been $ 10,000 if I counted my labor at minimum wage !

7.I enjoyed teaching Early Childhood,in Brazosport, TX for 6 years. I then was “ promoted “ to First Grade for another 5 years before we started moving around the USA.

8.We adopted both of our sons – Nicholas joined us at 21 days in 1979, and Chris at 12 days in 1982 –Thanks to Homes of Saint Mark for making our life a fulfilling one.

9.Enjoy going to the beach and just watching the waves--it is so relaxing. I love vacations to any beach ! Hope someone has a beach house for a Mac party !!!

10.Need to get my knee replaced as it limits my mobility, but fortunately everything else is still working.

11.I saved my sister’s life when we were young -- she ate a bottle of aspirin-- she is still mad about getting her stomach pumped.

12.Scapbooking and chronicling our family history is great fun for me.

13.After graduating from Southwest Texas State in 1974, and a 3 month stint in Clear Lake, TX - we spent the first 12 years in Lake Jackson, TX then moved about every 2 years – Chicago, Denver, Greenville, South Carolina, Clear Lake ( 3 times ) - lots of fun and it broadened our life perspective. We made some great friends along the way.

14.Decorating our home is one of my top priorities, and with all of our moves I got to do a lot of decorating.

15.I was robbed by an armed gunman in San Antonio at a Circle K on N New Braunfels in 1988 – and gangsters with guns will make you realize Rolex watches and rings are not nearly as important as your life….

16.Really proud of the adults my two sons have become as college graduates. They are wonderful, caring young men and I know they will make a difference in this world.

17.Very seldom wear shoes, as sandals are my daily choice – unless it is snowing – and it doesn’t snow much in Austin….

18.Swimming is my favorite form of exercise ( see 10 above ), and if you see me running call the police as someone is after me with a gun ( again ).

19.My sister Suzy and I try to go on a “ Thelma and Louise “ drive across the USA each year as I don’t like to fly anymore – going to Destin, Florida this Spring. ( see 9 above )

20.I loved living in Castle Pines, Colorado , just south of Denver – nice weather, great community, beautiful views, and lots to do. When we hit the Lotto Michael and I will buy another home there. We LOVED the skiing there!

21.Still looking for Mexican food as good as La Fonda where our family used to go every Sunday night with Carol Rosberg and her family….

22.Think I would be a fantastic grandmother, but nothing on the horizon – I am glad my sister, Suzy, shares her grandchildren with me.

23.Would like to go to Ireland and Scotland to trace my Killebrew roots someday. Maybe because Coach Price was my favorite teacher, and he made it seem like we were in the historical period we studied.

24.Have always tried to follow my Dad’s advice – “if you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all”.....well maybe one exception - my typing teacher (who recognized I had no typing skills) couldn’t believe Suzy-- who typed 140 words per minute --was really my sister !! The typing teacher didn’t follow Dad’s advice either as he ridiculed me often !!

25.Working on the plans for our 40th reunion – can it really be 40 years since we were at Mac ? – has been a lot of fun – hope to see everyone on October 2nd and 3rd – Go Brahmas !!

And--#26--I just had a friend write to me to tell me I should add that "I suck at crossstitch" -- those were her words exactly--I guess she should know--she tried to teach me. Thanks, Gerri!

WHO IS NEXT TO SHARE THEIR 25 RANDOM THINGS ?

1. In HS, I sheared off the ends of 2 x 4's that were hanging out the passenger window in my '56 Chevy when I got too close to one of the roof supports of the building across from the field house at Mac. The sound was like a cannon going off!

2. At Mac, I put a traffic sawhorse with a flashing light on the sidewalk of a girlfriend's house and subsequently learned that her dad nearly had a heart attack when he saw it later that night.
3. I went riding one night with a group of HS guys/gals in my parents' '67 Vista Cruiser. We took the "long way" home and he radiator hose blew out while we were somewhere we shouldn't have been.
4. I rode the MS 150 from Houston to Austin with my daughter in 1992 and then again the next year with my son. The first year we got sunburned and had a southeasterly wind pushing us towards Austin; the second year a cold front blew through on day 2 and it was cold, wet, nasty and we rode into a 25 mph headwind.
5. I was in the USAF for almost 4 years. Gay Lee and I lived in Denver for about 6 mos. while I went to a military training school; then we moved to Tucson, AZ for about 3 and a half years. We fell in love with the desert and the cactus, especially the saguaro--they don't develop "arms" until they are at least 75 years old.
6. I have refinished "antique" furniture--usually oak. I have 2 old iceboxes; sideboard with beveled mirror; dining room table; dressers; etc.
7. I collect movie posters. I have a "Ben Hur"; "Ten Commandments"; "Witness for the Prosecution"; "The Next Voice You Hear"; "Bend of the River"; and others.
8. My mom still lives in the same house where I grew up, near MacArthur Park.
9. There is a picture of my dad in the '69 annual wearing his baseball cap backwards while speaking at a pep rally--that was so strange at the time, but that cap wearing style is about all you see these days.
10. I met my wife Gay Lee at UT/Austin. She is a native Texan and Austinite but her family moved away when her dad was transferred by the federal government. She came back to Austin to go to college.
11. My daughter will turn 31 this year, lives in Washington, DC, works for a non-profit organization there and is getting married in late October, after our reunion.
12. My son will turn 28 this year, lives in Houston, is a chemical engineer, works for Siemens and is also getting married this year, in August, before our reunion.
13. I use an Apple computer--specifically a MacBook--as opposed to a PC, to avoid viruses and b/c I find it easy to use.
14. I have lived in Houston since 1977, longer than anywhere else in my life.
15. I have 4 siblings and all of us graduated from Mac--'64, '66, '69, '74 and '76. Three of them still live in SA.
16. I have been to Rome, seen the Vatican and the Coliseum, among other sites, and learned the meaning of the "SPQR" letters that are everywhere in the city.
17. I have been to Florence and seen the statue of David by Michelangelo, but was equally impressed, if not more so, with a fresco called "Christ as the Man of Sorrow", picturing the risen Christ sitting on the edge of the tomb and gazing at his hands.
18. I have been to Costa Rica and learned the difference between the "rain forest" and the "cloud forest".
19. I like Texas Bar-B-Q, Tex-Mex and Blue Bell ice cream (Dutch Chocolate).
20. I rarely drink anything hot, as I always seem to burn the roof of my mouth when I do.
21. I had single artery heart bypass in 2006 and have the scar to prove it.
22. On TV, I like to watch B&W movies and Westerns; Monk; Cash Cab; and almost anything with Donna Reed or James Garner.
23. I am a jack of a few trades and a master of none.
24. I learned to cook Czechoslovakian apple strudel ("potica") from Gay Lee's uncle when we lived in Denver over 30 years ago. I still make it from time to time when we gather with her fam.

25. The favorite of all the cars I drove in HS was the '56 Chevy. You can see a picture of it on my profile page.

 Marcia Izaguirre

Marcia Izaguirre’s 25 things about me

1. I have been married and divorced twice never thought that would happen to me.

2. Finally in my 50’s I have found my soul mate, a brilliant man who is originally from Texas, and have fallen in love with him. He has totally bewitched me.

3. I have realized that serenity and inner peace are the most wonderful goals we can strive to accomplish.

4. I love to converse with interesting people. I also love to dance and listen to music. I think smiling is a wonderful feeling.

5. I was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, my father’s and my homeland; and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina; one of my favorite cities, which is my mom’s homeland. My ancestry is mainly Basque from the cities of Bilbao, Spain and Bayonne, France; on both sides of the Pyrenees Mountains.

6. I wish I would have finished my law studies; I would have really enjoyed practicing law. There is a huge need to advance the cause of so many who are marginalized and abused in our world.

7. I took a trip to Denmark Feb 2008 that I will never forget

8. Studying with my youngest son, I have discovered great interest in Art History. I have always found artistic talent an awesome gift.

9. The stillness of a mountain lake takes my breath away. I am enthralled by the leaves as they turn colors in the fall. I think huge trees that grow over country roads, especially in upstate NY, are extremely sensual.

10. There is nothing more comforting when I am alone than to read a good book

11. I really enjoy eating guacamole and chips with a coca cola…something I seldom do.

12. I lost my father at 11 years old and I still miss him, he has always been my compass.

13. I derive immense pleasure from watching my son on stage.

14. One of the most incredible sites I have ever seen was the tulip fields in Lisse, Holland; they go on for miles and miles, a rainbow of colors, truly magnificent. While there I visited Keukenhof the world's largest flower garden park with around 7 million tulips, daffodils, crocuses, and other flowering bulbs. Unbelievably beautiful!

15. The craziest thing I have done took place in March of 1984, when I ran out on a runway at the main airport in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and stopped the Papal jet, which was starting to turn around, to give some news videotape to the ABC News Vatican correspondent, at the time, David Ensor.

16. I lost two dear colleagues to a land mine explosion on the Honduras-Nicaraguan border during the Contras War. Since I was waived off the trip five minutes before they left, my name was still listed as if I was on that trip. Unfortunately, NBC aired my name as one of the dead and my mom, who was back in the USA, heard it and was totally panicked.

17. The first time I won a National Emmy Award I did not show up to the dinner in NY because I could not believe I had a chance to beat my idol, Walter Cronkite who had also been nominated in the investigative journalism category. Sacrilegious!

18. I had a bomb (plastique) planted in my room at the Hotel where I lived for about 6 months working for ABC News in Honduras.

21. November 3rd of 1998, I went to Honduras with Ted Koppel and his Nightline team to cover Hurricane Mitch. One morning we were flying out on a helicopter to take a look at the devastation throughout the country. The city of Tegucigalpa was engulfed in deep fog and the pilot did not realize we were flying into a mountain. The helicopter almost did not make the turn to avoid the crash. A scary moment

20. I am passionate about my work; it has allowed me to be a witness to history.

21. I really enjoy mentoring young colleagues and watching them spread their wings.

22. Back in our senior year, I had a crush on Ken Pierce. My best friend convinced me to leave him a note on the windshield of his car, but I did not have the courage to sign it.

23. I became a US citizen in 2006, 38 years after I legally immigrated to the US.

24. I am an eternal optimist.

25. Being a mother has been my most successful endeavor.

I'll rise to the bait. Here are my 25 things.

1) I didn't get married until I was 31.
2) My wife is the best person I have ever known!
3) I was running a bank when I was 26.
4) I wish I had spent all the time I played football, playing golf.
5) My daughters were born 8 months apart (long story).
6) I collect old Porsches.
7) Texas Tech football and Texas Ranger baseball break my heart every year.

10) My other daughter was on 4 state championship swim teams in high school.
11) I make an excellent pecan pie and a perfect martini.
12) I read at least 20 books a year.
13) McCaffrey, Schwind and I took three girls to Port A one summer. Two of them forgot to tell us they snuck out of their bedroom window till we got to the beach.
14) Tom Snider and I had the worst summer job of all summer jobs! Just ask him.
15) It still pisses me off that the coaches wouldn't let me play baseball because it conflicted with spring football practice.
16) I partied my butt off in college and still managed to graduate in 4 years.
17) One of my daughters is a math major at A&m with a 4.0 GPA. Go figure? She must get it from her mother.
18) No matter where I am, you will find me in church on Sunday morning.
19) My current passion is red wine. I love hobbies you can drink.
20) I was madly in love with Pam Zito in high school, to no avail.
21) Coach Price should have been in prison and Coach McManus was. What an insane group of adults to expose a bunch of teenagers to.
22) A good friend of mine introduced me to my wife and I thank him everytime I see him.
23) Someone asked me the other day, which of my daughters was adopted. I told him "I can't remember".
24)I am an avid quail hunter.
25) I hope my children love me as much as I loved my parents.

 Gary McCaffrey

1. I have no idea who or what Briscoe claims we did at the coast, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
2. Jeanne Criswell has kept me for a husband for over 37 years now, maybe Snider has been married longer, but probably no one else.
3. I spent the night in the Bexar county jail with Briscoe, Kevin McMaughn and Stephen Johns. Actually Johns was still there when we got out. Cost me my tax refund that year.
3. I graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Animal Science (see Hickey, you're not the only redneck).
4. I voted for Barack Obama.
5. My daughter is expecting our first grandchild, a girl.
6. I don't cook, but I have learned how to play the guitar a little, and regularly sing/play with a Church band.
7. I've been a real estate appraiser now for about 20 years and my daughter and I work together now.
8. Homeroom was fun with Whitey Lasswell and Kathy McConnell among others.
9. I felt we were a pretty close knit class, but in cliques though. DECA, jocks, drama, etc.
10. The older I get the more clearly I remember things, the more clearly I remember wrong, that is.
11. My older brother Pat went to Alamo Heights (I did too until10th grade), and caught a touchdown pass when we played them our Junior year and I was the cover person (he was a tight end).
12. Senior year was exhausting, we did amazing thing every weekend.
13. If NASCAR was as popular in HS as it is now, Gene Hickey would have been a superstar. He could drive like a maniac.
14. Mark Carpel and I drove around the entire Loop 1604, or what there was of it in '69 one night. I can't remember exactly why though.
15. Jeanne and I were in love then, and we are in love now. We used to walk around the campus (she would get me out of class with a pass in last period) and Coach Davis asked me if I "respected" Jeanne (I guess because I probably touched her rear or something). It surprised me, because I didn't think of it that way, but obviously it made an impression. I still touch her rear, but respectfully of course.
16. My MOM still lives in front of MacArthur, but the pool table is no longer there (sorry guys).
17. The best friend I ever had, Schwind used to spot me 10 points and still beat me at ping pong. I loved his parents too, but hated Hildegard (the weiner dog).
18. For all those who deserve this, I apologize to you if I was ever a jerk to you. Male or female.
19. Jeanne says I'm a good father and husband, so I'm glad for that. She's the kindest person I know.
20. I tried to date a lot of different people in HS to get an idea of who was what, and I had some really good experiences and have fond memories.
21. We like to take trips to various cities and sightsee on foot mostly. Marthas Vineyard, Vancouver, NYC, Boston and San Francisco are recent favorites.
22. I like to read historical fiction. The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl is one of my favorites. Just finished Based on the Movie by Billy Taylor (author who lives in
SA), but I'm not recommending it (although its takes place here in San Marcos some and includes Ralph the Swimming Pig in the plot)
23. We've made every reunion (is that good or bad?)so far.
24. Does anybody else remember the Stonewall Peach Festival and Rodeo. I seem to remember us harrassing LBJ there one time?
25. Thanks to Ken, et. al. for this site and for keeping us abreast of the Class of '69ers.

I hated that weiner dog too. Everytime I came to Schwind's back door that dog would chase me on top of the washing machine. How many nights did I sleep on that pool table, I can't seem to remember for some reason.

Gary McCaffrey

I am so impressed by my classmates ( I mean Rumbel, Izaguirre, McCartney, Briscoe, Ziegler to name a few-wow). We have some who are very accomplished individuals, and we also have a few who were not so distinquished in HS, but have turned out pretty well. I wish we would hear from the Smileys, Alexanders and Neugebauers out there...
Jim-you slept on the pool table in a full length leg cast as I remember. We had some great adventures. How we escaped without killing ourselves or somebody else I'll never know.

Charlene-It was fate that brought Jeanne and I together (that and Kenedys slumber party), and the capacity to forgive and forget that keeps us together. Hey, didn't you and your sister come over to visit my brother Pat a time or two? I think maybe he met you guys as a lifegaurd one summer?

Hey Court, thanks for the Kudos! I am happy to see so many from our class writing their "25 Random Things". It really is fun to see what everyone has to say and that we are catching up with each other. My husbands class from Brazosport High School started this--so it was not an original idea--I hope many more Brahmas respond.

Roger-- Just read your post and wanted to add parenthetically that I gave a lot of airtime to John Stewart when I was doing afternoon drive at the old KTAP 97 in Austin. I loved his "Cannons In The Rain" album and spun the tracks, "Durango" and "Chilly Winds" till the vinyl wore down. --Mike

Bren--are you really interested in Longhorn football tickets? My husband (teaches Chemical Engineering at UT)tells me season tickets are not available right now. We do have 4 (50 yard line) tickets--I never go--sometimes we have a couple available-if you would want to use them-- Just let me know.

Enough about accomplishments (although I find them all very interesting compared to my . . . whatever). What's there to do now? Is there anybody out there that doesn't like not working? I hear so often that people are afraid to retire, i.e., they'll become bored. What's up with that? Is that really true?

My wife, Carolyn, of 35 years (by reunion time), believes that serious guitar strumming, chess playing, and following the sun per Paul McCartney, wouldn't keep me busy enough during the college football off season. I have year round beer tasting already penciled in for gosh sakes. There's not that much left to fill in. The only guy who may not want to ever retire is a manager/supervisor of a bikini car wash.

P. S. Anyone selling season Longhorn tickets by the way? DKR Memorial Stadium has become so enormous and so loud that it can't possibly be any fun to attend anymore for those in their mid-fifties.

Bren...re retirement...I think you will find that your schedule fills up to an extent that you wonder how you ever had time to work. And yes..for me..retirement beats working for the man.

Re accomplishments....like my mother told me when I was at Garner..."I've lost all hope you'll ever go to college, I just pray you'll make it through High School". After that and surviving an ill spent youth and the military....it's all been gravy.

Allright Courtney..I see you calling out the wallflowers....time to belly up to the bar and post your current pics...I know the Weismueller physique hasn't suffered that much. So just throw on a baseball hat to cover the gleam, suck in the gut, and let it fly. Your public awaits.

OK--here is the deal--to those that are watching the message forum. Other classes that are doing the "25 Random Things" are "tagging" each other to get more people to respond. I thought it might be better to just let everyone offer up their random things. However, it is slow. With that in mind--it may work to give each other a "tag". I am now going to Tag Julie Evans, Carol Harris, Kathy Klinger, Janice Kennedy, Nancy Fletcher, Vicki Willard, Barb Marullo and Nancy Rumbel. Come on girls--tell us some things about YOU!

Here are some things about me:
1. I have always liked Kathy Killebrew Proehl and her football school spirit. So of course I would love to share in that spirit so when you need to sit out a game please let me know (first) and I will bring a little extra cash down for an Austin fall weekend. Thanks so much for that offer. I have Irish roots also (Bren is short for Brendan).
2. I shared Longhorn season tickets with ex-Mac/UT swimmer Bill Barnhill two years ago. The seats were temporary and only good for one season.
3. Court Thieleman, who I haven't seen in 40 years, who has lived and worked in Austin for awhile, who I know has good UT connections with that State government job of his, never has offered me any UT tickets. And this is my fellow Mac ex-swimmer who always saved a shelf in his refrigerator for Barnhill's and mine's lunch food for when we skipped out. I know where Lantana is.
4. My favorite guitar player was, is, and always will be Eric Clapton. Same thing for bands - The Beatles.
5. My most worthwhile accomplishment is successfully raising our two kids. Steven's a Dallas firefighter and Nicole is a recruiter for EMJ Corp. Both are happily married. Nicole wants kids and enjoys indoor things like decorating. Steven on his off days plays a lot of tennis and golf. Emphasis on a lot; doesn't want to ruin a good thing just yet.
6. "My key to the above accomplisment, because it was a dual effort was the response, "better ask your mom".
7. We attend Lake Pointe Church here in Rockwall. It is pointed out quite often that everyone sins and needs forgiveness. We all are graced with the gift of forgiveness, so take it and forgive others. Not a bad deal.
8. I got to do the sound mix for Jason Castro of American Idol fame at Lake Pointe once.
9. I was almost killed twice back in H.S./college days. One time at Lake McQueeney my date ran over my little water skiis that I had been in only 2 seconds before. She inadvertenly did a 180 degree turn while attempting to pull me up out of the water, then completely froze in panic when she had me in directly in her path. A couple of quick strokes and the 125 hp ski boat brushed on by pulverizing both skiis. I don't remember her name however, Jane or Mary or Slasher or something. She was from Alamo Heights, was blonde haired, and I think a cheerleader. So if any you guys out there with old Alamo Heights connections, maybe you have heard a story like this and could find out her name so I could forgive her like I said I would. Still it was a bad date.
10. The other near death experience was driving home from Port A in the middle of the night when my good friend who was driving fell asleep at the wheel. I awoke to doing a series of 360's while crossing the median of hwy 181 then rolling down the opposite side embankment, hitting a tree, and coming to stop upside down and trapped inside just outside Floresville. I think we were pretty lucky with the car not blowing up or catching on fire. We finally crawled out the back of my totaled '69 Barracuda and needed only some stitches. Still it was a bad trip.
11. My wife is a LPC, licensed professional counselor and has 500 friends in Rockwall. I have 5.
12. I never thought about being this old. I'm not a good planner. Better ad libber. That's why I went to the Dallas Reunion Planning meeting, to make sure things didn't get "too" planned (and to see Stan's lovely wife, Cindy, who has always liked me more than she has Whitey Lasswell).
Almost halfway done, but I quit for now.

Bren, since I got my V.A. disability pension (2004 or 2005) I have been busier than ever. I got some pet rats at the Humane Society (my son wanted them), joined RatsPacNW Yahoo group, traveled all over WA, OR, ID, and Vancouver, BC for rat shows. I drove some pedigreed rats out to Montana for a friend (now the MT people are good friends). I finally passed the test and became a rat show judge. I traveled to Regina, Sasketchewan (sp?)with some BC friends for the regions first rat show (new Canadian rat club). Cut back on all that when price of gas went over $4/gal.
Now I stay busy with Middle School PTA (secretary), neighborhood association (secretary), 2 CitizensCorp groups (Lakewood Sheltering Team, PCART-Pierce County Animal Rescue Team), Stand for Children, ZombieSquad, and Tacoma Radio Club (HAM radio, got my license in Jan). I still have to supervise my disabled husband's healthcare (Friedreich's Ataxia, researched by MDA) and take care of my 15 yr old high schooler. Sometimes I still have time to sew (rat show costumes, and people costumes for local sci-fi cons), scrapbook, and work on genealogy. My blogs don't get updated as often as they used to.

Bren, you will have to get in line for those Longhorn tickets. 1st of all I live closer to the Poehl's and 2nd Michael has bought a 'scooter' hahaha and will meet me between our neighborhoods. Now I possibly could find you a couple of Chucky Cheese coupons to watch the Longhorns play ball....or better yet, you are so welcome to join us before or after a game in super tailgate, :) xo Fletcher

Nancy, about you getting to use those tickets before me, let me quote from Mac's own Norm Hitzges' all sports talk radio show up here in Dallas, " No, no, no, never, never, never!!! Even though you now live very close to the Proehls', I'm going to become best buds with Michael. We're going to share many stories about all UT's past star players and great games (which all happened while you abandoned living in our great State). We will swap oil stories, and talk some chemistry and how it's used in enhanced oil recovery, etc, etc, etc. And besides, I'll pay more for them. So please keep those cheap Chuck-e- Cheez coupons for someone else. I still hope you can make it to some games, just not the ones where I would rather be on the 50 yard line. I've never been on the 50, at least you got to cheer on the 50. Hope you have a great planning meeting. See you hopefully at the reunion AND a super tailgate. Stay cute.

Kathy Killebrew Poehl, I've just now realized that I have been misspelling your last name. I apologize for that, and I'm on my way now to buy stronger readers'. I wouldn't want that to come between Michael's and mine's new friendship.

As far as all this UT talk goes, I got one thing to say. Michael Crabtree makes a great catch at the 4 yard line, he scores with 1 second left on the clock. Tech wins! Tech Wins!

Why do you think Kathy wants to give away 50 yard line seats to tu games?

It was a great catch and one of many great throws made by Harrell. Those two guys played lights out all season and I'm so glad along with the rest of the Big 12 teams that they now will be playing on Sundays. But, and I know "buts" don't count, the play should never have occurred. The play right before that was an interception - I saw the tipped pass slowly floating right down into our hands - so did everyone, what happened? . . . It was too easy? Bad luck? Unbelievable. Tech wins. Fact.

I had a chilling dream last night about what really happened on that "interception" play. While the tipped ball was slowly falling to the ground, a blinding, dusty cloud suddenly blew in off the Llano Estacado. It spooked the Tech Halloween horse and it alarmingly neighed, then the great ghost of Buddy Holly, barely visible inside the haunted cloud, rocked the stadium causing the Longhorn DB to drop the sure pick. Believe it! Curses!!

Hey Gary McCaffrey---easy now. All I did was offer up tickets to see the great Longhorns play football --remember the ROSE BOWL from a couple years back--and Vince Young???  My son informs me that UT will be in the top 4 next year. Surely you can see Colt McCoy is a major factor in that. In High School I did not understand football at all! Mostly, I socialized at the games. Now, after being married to a sports fanatic for 37 years and raising two boys I have come to enjoy most sports. Watching my sons play was really what turned me around. I can understand now how much fun the parents had at our games. We also have Texans tickets and just gave up our Rockets tickets a couple of years ago.

Bren and Nancy--oops--I forgot about Nancy wanting those tickets also. We will work it out!

Bren--no problem with how you spelled my name--you should hear how many different ways I have heard it pronounced! Sorry you won't be at Nancys for the meeting--You and Michael could talk "shop" --"Hook Em"!!
