Tragedy as well as laughter is a part of the school year . . . Tragedy struck MacArthur on Thanksgiving weekend . . . Leroy Ernest and Peter Tanasoca were killed in an automobile accident November 30, 1968 . . . They were a part of MacArthur, and will always be a part of our memories.

LEROY EARNEST

     Leroy Earnest, age 18, of 308 El Portal St., died Friday at a local hospital. Survivors: Parents, Capt. and Mrs. Elmer W. Earnest; brother, Wayne Earnest, San Antonio; sisters, Mrs. Beverly Earnest Hoch, Miss Linda Earnest, Miss Ione Earnest, all of San Antonio; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Perkins, St. Martinville, La.; Mrs. Lizzie Pewitt, Austin, Texas. Service Monday at 10 o’clock in the Georgian Chapel of the Porter Loring Mortuary, Dr. John Barbee officiating. Interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Direction by Porter LoringMcCullough at Elmira, San Antonio, Texas.

I remember Leroy at Garner. He had lots of pizazz. There was kind of a "Happy Days" phase during those 7th & 8th grade years....before the surfing craze and British Invasion. Lots of the guys wore pegged pants, skinny belts, ducktails, and pointed shoes (stomps). Leroy was right in there with "the Fonze", albeit a shorter version, with his "hood" persona. I remember he always had quality "ducks" and premium outsized "stomps" that were almost as big as he was. Leroy was mischievious and fun...we ran in the same fringe circles, and frequented Drawhorn's office together. It's a shame he died so young.

I too remember Leroy & will never forget him he use to make me laugh he lived two streets over from me. Not too many days go by that I don't think of him  & Pete.
