PRE MEDITATED AMNESIA

Still trying to determine if certain things actually happened

1.  Was there actually a big rock outside the school wing before class in the morning.  Did Schwind and Briscoe hog standing on the rock as grand poobah big dogs?

2.  Was there an unusual large group of male students standing underneath outside stairs at a wing building that female students climbed up at recess?

3.  Was it true that all female students had to wear dresses and no slacks or pants?

4.  Was it true that many male teachers always had female students sit in the front row in their classes?  (Males to the back)

5.  Was it true that no male students could wear blue regular blue jeans at Mac?

6.  Was it true that some female students actually stalked Gary Caswell while on campus?

7.  Was it true that Thad Zeiglar actually could not talk but only laugh alot?

8.  Was it true that Peyton Caswell had a big showdown at the Frontier parking lot one night?  (Alamo Heights thug)

9.  Was it true that students actually stacked into car trunks entering the drive in theater?

10. Was it true that football prospect (Martinez) actually thought the jock strap was a nose guard?

11. Was it true that I while taking my ACT test I was in a daze looking at Charlene Adcock and didn't finish all my test questions?

Or am I just losing my MIND?

Paul...that's alot of information for a 58 year old brain to process.  Being as I was only at Mac for the first half of our Soph year before I shipped out to California, I can only verify a few of your memories. At the time I left town (1966) girls couldn't wear pants.....thank god!....so all us boys could better check out their legs.  And it does seem that male teachers liked the girls in the front row....it was consistent with the times.....the best looking ones in the front row and so on.  I don't recall being allowed to wear blue jeans...only pegged, high water white levis...and in cold weather levi corduroy pants.  I don't recall standing under the stairway looking up, but it sounds like a reasonable assumption that teenage boys might have engaged in such activity.  I snuck in the drive-in, by being stuffed in a trunk, more times than I can remember....Moody's Impala had a good sized trunk...so did my Olds 88.  Once in awhile Drive-In security would make you open up the trunk and we would get busted before entering.  This proved to be distressing as we usually had a case of beer in the trunk as well which proved to be troublesome to explain at times. I don't recall Peyton Caswell's fight at the Frontier Drive-In but it sounds interesting and would like to hear all the details.  Stuff like this is important to share with classmates.

Its Thanksgiving Day!  Happy Thanksgiving all you Brahmas.  While awaiting the Cowboys/Raiders game and more importantly the UT/A&M game I checked out the website - it had been awhile.  I think Paul has asked some very good questions.  The blue jeans thing and the pretty girls in the front row are the most interesting to me.  I can't remember well enough even to guess at the answers to those questions - but I would like to know them.  Somebody needs to speak up.  A well respected, knowledgeable, low profile nice person.  Let's hear it!

I don't remember seeing any large rocks on campus - not by any building wings or anywhere.  I had to have some kind of early interest in rocks back then - I decided to major in geology a couple of years later.  But then again, if I didn't have to be at that suspected big rock location, I wouldn't have just wandered over there for nothing.

Happy Thanksgiving, Brahmas!

My memories as far as the length of dresses or skirts are fairly vivid. I do remember having to go to the front office a few times to have my "hems" checked. I remember having to kneel--if my dress or skirt touched the floor--then it was long enough. If not, they tore my hem out! Needless to say my parents were not too happy about this. I was furious! I don't remember wearing skirts all that short--but, when I went to college I was very happy to have mini skirts very much in style (and no one to tell me how to wear them)!

  • Don't recall any rocks on campus
  • yes, we were the last to have to wear a skirt  or dress, the class of 70 got to wear the pants.  I believe they also changed the Lassie uniforms.   I was sent to the office many times for my mini skirts....my Mom would have to bring over something new for me to wear.
  • yes, the guys did hang out under the stairs
  • always remember being seated alphabetically, so I ended up in the last seat of the second row most times.
  • remember some guys wearing jeans, mostly the ones who stood behind the band room so they could smoke during lunch

Does anyone else remember when we filled up plastic garbage bags with gas from the science lab and then let them go @ lunch???   someone lit the strings, it was a pretty spectacular show!!
