60th Birthday Party
Posted Wednesday, April 28, 2010 10:59 AM

This is not a Janice original as I got this idea from a friend of mine whose class did this last year. I am suggesting that we have a big 60th birthday party (celebration) next year (maybe in the summer), as we ALL will be turning the big 60. My friend said her class had a one night dinner and dance and said it was the best turnout and birthday that they have ever had. What better way to celebrate turning 60 than with a bunch of other 60 year olds!! They had a cake and dinner and then danced the night away or drank themselves into oblivion. :-) Just kidding!!! It doesn't have to be fancy and I think it might be even more fun if there is a brave Brahma out there with a great yard and/or patio (to dance on) that would be willing to host a party, we could cater in the food and everyone BYOB (that's birthday presents-ha!!), and maybe  even hire a clean up crew, or we can find an inexpensive place to have it. I will be happy to help plan it and it can be great come and celebrate if you can event. It can be in San Antonio or Austin or even in Dallas for that matter.

Any takers??

I LOVE that idea, Janice! In fact, Michaels class (Brazosport High School) is planning to do the same thing. The UT Golf Club has a beautiful, huge outdoor pavillion--it is nice this time of year--if we did a spring dinner. They have neat rockers around several fire places --it is always cool and breezy in the spring. Just an idea--Let's all think about this and see what kind of response we get.

Janice....it's an idea worth wrapping our pre-dementia minds around.  Although gauging by the turnout at our Fiesta de los Brahmas you may have to line up some pole dancers or an equally compelling attraction to get folks off the couch, onto their walkers and out the door.  I always said that "60" is when you officially become old....but now I am reassessing that calculation.  At any rate I recommend they put you in charge of BYOB!

Janice...you have the BEST ideas. Count me in...springtime in Texas sounds great...it is STILL winter here in Idaho.

As a perty reliable hellraiser, I'll always throw in with the idea of another get together.   Janice, we talked about this at the Fiesta de los Brahmas, and I think it's a superior idea.  I just like getting the gang together for any given reason and this has the benefit of occurring nominally midway between 40th and 45th reunion schedule.  What I particularly like is that we can all get together and have empathy for our big 6.  I dont expect a crowd of others in my life carrying out anything for my Sixty - and getting Brahmas with the same malady together would be a way to cry it out en mass.  The Mac '69 connection has become special to me due to our regular reunions (and now the website) - the reunions being a real distinction for our particular class as I've come to figure out.  Seems there are few classes that have the duration of ours, and the 40 was just damn good overall.  Specifically when and where - who knows?  But we're already a year out for a mid-Summer event.  I certainly liked the Fall timing for the reunion last time and could see us crashing in on another place like Oyster Bar or such for the occasion.  Seems it's time to get the non-committee organized and get started.  Your posting kinda treats it like a No Big Deal thing - but I bet there'd be a lot of interest similar to mine.  Heck - who else gives a darn when us ole birds turn 60..??  I'm for it - and will help out as possible.  Good one JK..!  Chester..
